I was interviewing a juvenile yesterday, who took the rubber band that was around his wrist, and proceeded to attach it to the tip of his finger, wrap the other end around his thumb, point it in my direction, and almost shoot me in the head. I can definitely say that this was the first time something like this has occurred to me during a pretest interview.

I'm interested in reading other unusual incidents that have occurred to examiners during interviews and examinations.

I have two for you.

I was testing a female soldier and after the pre-test, I told her to remove her uniform top and have a seat in the polygraph chair.

I had turned around to turn on my "polygraph in session" light and upon turning back around she was sitting there wearing nothing up top! She was supposed to be wearing both a bra and a military tee shirt under the uniform shirt. Apparently, she didn't get the uniform requirments that day.

The other was back during the analog days. I was testing another female and really concentrating on keeping the pins on the paper when the two pneumograph pins shot to the top of the chart paper and tangled together. The EDA went up top and hung into the pneumo pins. I was trying to un hang them and readjust and without looking up, said "please don't move". I finally looked up and she had fainted and was being supported in the chair only by the pneumopgraph components. So much for keeping my eye on the examinee.
